ROLE OVERVIEW
The Staff Software engineer will be working on the Fabric virtual care platform designing and building features in Ruby/Rails. As part of the Product and Engineering team, Staff Engineers regularly work closely with our Principal Architect and the Product and Quality teams in the course of their duties. They also provide consulting services to the Site Reliability, Integrations, Support, Customer Success, and Professional Services teams to help them understand the details of application feature setup & operation. The Fabric software development team works using the Scrum process with a two week sprint cycle. Staff engineers are expected to be a resource for the rest of the engineering team for our software development process, coding standards, core frameworks, and emerging technologies.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, develop, document, test, and debug new and existing features for Fabric' suite of applications. Staff engineers will often be the lead engineer on a feature project, working with a principal engineer to guide development strategy.
Participate in, and sometimes lead, software design meetings and partner with the Product Team to analyze user needs and inform technical requirements.
Have a deep understanding of and desire to teach others about the languages and technologies Fabric uses, including Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL, AngularJS, RSpec, and others. Experience with JavaScript and React is a plus.
Collaborate with quality engineers to create and deliver test plans including automated user testing and integration specs to meet quality objectives.
Mentor other engineering colleagues in software engineering principles and techniques. Perform code reviews of others' code.
WHO YOU ARE
You have 6+ years of experience working on MVC-based web applications, demonstrating increasing skill in tackling technical challenges. A desire (and proven ability) to pick up new frameworks and concepts.
You have a deep understanding of, and willingness to teach, software development practices and concepts such as Object-oriented programming, Web application technologies, Web application security, and testing best practices. Understanding of the analysis of programs such as space and time complexity.
You are highly capable of communicating technical concepts and ideas to other engineers and to non-engineering members of the Fabric team. Able to discuss application features & use cases with end users and customer contacts.
You are excited to work in a fast-paced startup environment and work on a wide variety of tasks and projects
You have experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO
Has a BA/BS Degree in computer science, information systems, or related field. Equivalent experience of 2 to 4 additional years in the industry is also acceptable.
Has very strong technical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
