Position Summary

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and deploy the backend services that power our most transformative products — including Acolyte AI and Acolyte Studio. You’ll lead development of secure, scalable APIs and microservices, architect the infrastructure that supports intelligent content delivery, and build integrations that connect with customer platforms and endpoints. You’ll write clean, high-performance Python code, design data pipelines for AI-driven workflows, and interface with technologies for outbound communication (SMS, email, video, avatar APIs). You’ll work closely with both in-house product and engineering teams as well as offshore developers, helping coordinate workstreams and ensure consistent quality and velocity across time zones. You’ll be joining a passionate team of engineers and prototype builders, all focused on bringing to life the next generation of patient-facing healthcare technology. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role — ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, early-stage environments and cares deeply about product quality, performance, and user outcomes. Note: You should be willing to utilize AI tooling and programmable AI agents to augment software development and QA.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Architecture & Infrastructure

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs to support core products like Acolyte AI and Acolyte Studio
  • Architect secure, HIPAA-compliant systems for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery
  • Continuously improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of backend infrastructure

Product Execution & Delivery

  • Own the full product development lifecycle—from writing clear PRDs and defining acceptance criteria to managing delivery with engineering and implementation teams.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, design, and implementation teams to ensure product solutions are technically sound, user-friendly, and ready for scale.
  • Drive tight, iterative feedback loops between customers, design, engineering, and implementation to deliver quality outcomes.
  • Use tools like Amplitude, PostHog, or custom dashboards to measure user behavior, feature usage, and retention patterns—turning analytics into product insight.

Design & Usability Collaboration

  • Work with design partners to prototype and iterate on intuitive, efficient user experiences across web and mobile interfaces.
  • Champion quality and polish in all aspects of the product experience, especially in tools related to generative video, avatars, or conversational AI.

Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Coordinate closely with implementation, client success, and support teams to align technical delivery with customer onboarding and operational needs.
  • Support sales and customer success teams with product knowledge, demos, and pre-sales input where needed.

AI-First Approach & Innovation

  • Stay hands-on with new tools, technologies, and AI platforms to inform product design and execution.
  • Bring a high-agency, “builder” mindset to push the boundaries of what’s possible—particularly in automating workflows, enhancing video creation, or supporting avatar-based communication.

Experience requirements

  • 5+ years of product management experience, including end-to-end ownership of complex, high impact products across the full product lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to lead with an AI-first mindset, with hands-on experience or deep curiosity around deploying AI/ML technologies to solve real-world problems.
  • Strong customer obsession with a track record of translating user needs into intuitive, high-quality product experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance product vision with technical depth—bridging business goals, engineering complexity, and user experience.
  • Technically fluent—able to dive deep with engineers, understand architectural tradeoffs, and contribute meaningfully to product decisions that have technical implications, without needing to write production code.
  • High agency, ownership, and adaptability—comfortable working independently and driving outcomes in a fast-paced, early-stage environment.
  • A builder’s mentality, with experience shipping 0→1 products, iterating rapidly, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible using modern AI tooling.
  • Outstanding cross-functional leadership and communication skills—able to motivate engineering, design, customer success, and sales around a shared product vision.
  • Ability to context switch across multiple verticals and customer types, while keeping long-term platform cohesion in view.
  • Deep understanding of UX and user behavior, with a high bar for craft, usability, and visual design.
  • Experience or awareness using qualitative insights and quantitative data to drive prioritization, roadmap decisions, and product strategy.
  • Comfortable with go-to-market strategy, pricing, and positioning, especially in markets with technical buyers or regulated environments (healthcare preferred).
  • Bonus: Experience with healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7), integrations with payer/provider systems, or working in mission-driven health tech organizations.
  • Bonus: Knowledge of HIPAA and HITRUST and other relevant regulations in healthcare technology development

Personality

  • Self-motivated and independent — able to set accurate timelines for development and deliver on them. Have an opinion and the experience to backup that opinion.
  • Low ego, high patience, strong communication skills, consensus winner
  • Understand operational costs and overhead short and long term.
  • Mission-driven — we are building something fundamentally disruptive and this reflects deeply in our company DNA.

Interested candidates should submit their resume and a brief summary of their experience with product design, innovation and all the current AI tooling they are using.
