Position Summary

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and deploy the backend services that power our most transformative products — including Acolyte AI and Acolyte Studio. You’ll lead development of secure, scalable APIs and microservices, architect the infrastructure that supports intelligent content delivery, and build integrations that connect with customer platforms and endpoints.

You’ll write clean, high-performance Python code, design data pipelines for AI-driven workflows, and interface with technologies for outbound communication (SMS, email, video, avatar APIs). You'll work closely with both in-house product and engineering teams as well as offshore developers, helping coordinate workstreams and ensure consistent quality and velocity across time zones.

You’ll be joining a passionate team of engineers and prototype builders, all focused on bringing to life the next generation of patient-facing healthcare technology. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role — ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, early-stage environments and cares deeply about product quality, performance, and user outcomes.

Note: You should be willing to utilize AI tooling and programmable AI agents to augment software development and QA

Key Responsibilities

Backend Architecture & Infrastructure

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs to support core products like Acolyte AI and Acolyte Studio
• Architect secure, HIPAA-compliant systems for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery
• Continuously improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of backend infrastructure
• Lead implementation of cloud-native systems using AWS (e.g., Lambda, RDS, Step Functions, S3)

AI Platform Enablement

• Build backend capabilities that support real-time AI workflows, content generation, and outbound communication
• Integrate and manage AI orchestration tools (e.g., AWS Bedrock, LangChain) to enable scalable model deployment
• Apply emerging technologies to optimize backend support for AI and interactive media delivery

Collaboration & Leadership

• Lead cross-functional technical projects from design to production in close partnership with product, platform, and offshore engineering teams
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other engineers, raising the bar on code quality and engineering discipline
• Drive adoption of shared infrastructure and backend best practices across teams, influencing without direct authority when needed

Developer Experience & Process Improvement

• Analyze existing engineering workflows to identify inefficiencies and codify reusable patterns
• Develop internal services and abstractions that accelerate product development velocity
• Define methods, procedures, and engineering processes that support high-quality, high-velocity backend development

Experience requirements

• 6+ years of professional experience in software development, with a focus on building scalable, high-performance applications for production environments.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Django and Javascript.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), microservices architecture, and the following applications across entire stack:
• Django (Language Python)
• Next.js (React) – Language Typescript
• AWS Step Functions with Lambdas, AWS RDS – Engine PostgreSQL, AWS Bedrock
• Bitbucket/Github (Git Provider).
• Experience developing/scaling pipelines, event streaming/processing in AWS
• Experience with working/harmonizing mutliple integration endpoints and platforms.
• Familiarity with auth0, Twilio, Sendgrid, Slack and Teams
• Industry Experience: Deep understanding of software development best practices, including version control (Git), code review processes, and CI/CD pipelines. Experience with database design and management (e.g. SQL, NoSQL) and familiarity with data privacy regulations relevant to healthcare.
• Successfully deployed and led the maintainence of production environments
